Simple transfer from Canvas to Scan n Cut

Simple transfer from Canvas Workspace to my Scan n Cut (via Wi-Fi)

For any amount of reasons, it may not be possible to open an svg file directly on your Scan n Cut. This appears to happen more frequently on the earlier CM range and appears to have something to do with the intricacy of the design.

By design the Scan n Cut range are ‘equipped’ to handle ‘svg’ cutting files, but the machine natively supports ‘fcm’ files, (Brother Software file association).

So, if a file is unavailable to open directly on your machine, try opening it in Canvas Workspace first, then transfer it to your machine in ‘fcm’ format. This lets the machine open the file in its native form.

Open Canvas on your PC,

You can either visit online at canvasworkspace.brother.com/en, or by using your desktop app, (you have the option to download the app when you arrive on their landing page). If you are using the application for the first time, you will need your email address you registered your machine with, and the password.

Either use the ‘drag and drop’ method to open your file in the application, or use the ‘import svg’ button on the toolbar, see below;

Search for the ‘svg’ file you desire, and click on it to open it in the app.

NB - IF your file open completely in black without any features DON’T PANIC! This can happen if the file has been created on certain software. For the auspices of this exercise it is irrelevant, however if you want to see the design as you’d expect to see it, click here

Click on ‘File’ and select the ‘Export/Transfer FCM File...’

On the pop-up box, select the ‘Transfer the FCM file via the internet’ option;

You then should receive the following ‘Success’ message;

Return to your Scan n Cut and use the ‘Import from Canvas/Internet’ option, and your file should now open successfully

If you have no access to internet, or your machine does not support Wi-Fi, you can select the ‘Export FCM file’ option at the pop up box and save to your PC for later transfer to a USB drive, or save it directly to your USB
