Shared Cutting Files
Thank you for being a valued customer, and thank you for reading this cover document. As most of you will know we try to appeal to as many levels and types of crafter in our Facebook community Creative Friends and beyond as we can, Creative Friends being where the whole concept of these FREE to use cutting files were first discussed! In that spirit these files are now being offered publicly to everyone, in the hope of including Electronic Cutters into the digital paper kit user family.
PLEASE remember these are NOT official branded files (ie The Crafty Witches), consider these as supermarket brand alternative, they are third party and not produced and manufactured by the brand. These files and are completely free to use by anyone who has a electronic cutting machine to enhance their enjoyment of your respective branded products.
It is strongly advised to download these to your Windows PC/Laptop, Mac, or Chromebook only. Mobile devices don't like the auto download format and will either divert to saving to a cloud drive, or give a message of 'no internet'. This appears to be a security feature on mobile platforms.
NB: Remember, when these designs were produced, the brands were NEVER produced to support cutting files, so there IS going to be differences kit to kit, therefore the use of the files is ultimately your decision, the creator, the group nor the brand can be held responsible for incorrectly cut papers, embellishments, sentiments or any other official printed matter.
What files are these for?
The files offered are for Electronic Cutting Machines which can read svg of fcm files. They will be natively supported directly by the Brother Scan n Cut, CM and SDX ranges, will be supported on the Silhouette machines, if they are used in conjunction with the Designer Edition Silhouette Software, and on compatible Cricut machines where used with suitable software such as SCAL5.
These free files currently cover the following brands;
The Crafty Witches
Pollyanna Pickering
Louise Nisbet
Kevin Wood
What format are they
The zipped folder you download will contain three folders
SVG files: Universally accepted cutting file
FCM files: The native file format for Brother Hobby Cutting Machines
CWPRJ files: Canvas Workspace Project file. This is a unique file type only supported by Brother's Creative Application. We have deliberately left these in for you to play around with and modify if you have the notion
How do these affect The Crafty Witches 'Angel Policy'?
Good point! OK, so the Witches allow us to make and sell completed products/projects, and resize so we're OK there. However due to licence restrictions with the original creator, the policy will not allow the images recoloured or changed in format, ie: from 'pdf' to 'jpeg'/'png'. So technically you cannot scan them.... 'OK so how'..... Concern not! It's fine; Lynda & Becky will allow you to use the cutting machine to scan the image in for the use in Canvas Workspace for the Scan n Cut, (and/or respective software's for use with Silhouette, Cricut and any forthcoming, or retrospective machines). BUT you must not 'save' the project with the image to your device, or send it on, basically this is digitally reproducing and distributing, therefore against copyright.
Right so now we know what the boundaries are, in laypersons terms, you CAN scan the printed image into the cutting machines, NOT a standalone scanner, and once you have plotted/lined up the cutting files, if you wanted to save the 'project' you MUST delete the image off the file. This method is actually how the free files were created.
Any queries on this please email darkestdragonproductions@gmail.com NOT the crafty witches are these are not licenced svg/fcm/cwpf files, they are created & shared with 'permission' to the creator ALONE. Anyone is welcome to download them, but CANNOT share them.
What is the ‘Angel Policy', or their limitations of use?
We have no intention in stopping you using these in whatever form you see fit; AS LONG as you don’t try to sell them and/or pass them off as your own! These files belong to the creator, but are offered as a FREE add-on to enhance your digital journey with The Crafty Witches.
Something is wrong with one of these files. What do I do?
We cannot promise these are all going to be perfect, in fact they are created by an avid crafter, just like you, so please use these files advisedly, and if you are not happy with them lining up, don’t use them.They have been checked, and you can appreciate there is a lot of work here, and even more on checking files, but we know there is likely to be errors, hence why they are free.
This is why feedback is essential from you, the community, if we need to fix, revise or add features. Drop an email at the address below, please include the file name, and any photo if relevant.
Remember these are offered voluntarily, and although we do try to respond as soon as possible, don’t get upset if we are longer than you’d like, or indeed if we cannot fix the issue.
I'm having difficulty making the graphic fit my printed sheet. What am I doing wrong?
There are a myriad of variables that can actually be wrong, which can be, but not limited to;
Printer rollers needing realignment causing uneven feed of paper.
Incorrect loading of paper to printer.
Printer head adjustment required.
Scan n Cut/cutting machine mat slipping due to mat needing cleaned or replaced due to damage
Cutting machine loading rollers require cleaning or are not aligned correctly.
Printed media loaded to mat incorrectly, out of alignment, or even upside down, which is actually easier done than you think!
Ensuring your printer and cutting machine is maintained in accordance with manufacturers instructions, should help with most of the issues noted above, and obviously ensuring no foreign objects or paper cuts are present obstructing movement of the mat or printing media. When loading the printed on to your cutting mat, use the black line on the edge to ensure you are lining the print as close to 0/360 degree as possible, similarly when lining the mat in the cutting machine, ensure both corners enter the rollers at the same time. This all has the effect of ensuring your scanned image is at the correct angle when you then go to align with the cutting files.
I have a kit or a page I don’t have a matching file for?
There is absolutely every chance of that. Thee are very much a work in progress, and The Crafty Witches brand are evolving all the time, so we are always playing catch-up in the community. We do, very generously, have pretty much agreement from Lynda Chapman to continue developing these free, to you, the customers so anything she has, or will bring to market under the brand can be catered for.
Email us at the address below & we’ll see if I can assist. The worst thing we can say is no!
Right, let's do this! How do I download them?
Just click on the icon above the name of the file set you need and it should automatically start downloading to your device, it is that simple!
There is VERY likely you will have questions, need advice or to seek clarity. Just ask, either put a post up on the Creative Friends feed, someone else in the group may know the answer, or may need to know too, or send an email with your query to the creator of the files directly, (remember these are not OFFICIAL files, so we do not contact Lynda and her team)
Please send feedback, and/or diagnostic photos etc to Kevin at;
Sorry, boring note to ensure clarity
