See more of the posts from your favourite groups on your own feed
Why don’t I see more from my crafty and hobby groups when I log on to Facebook?
Facebook operates on an absolute myriad of algorithms which determines what you see on your main feed. It depends on the groups you belong to, pages you like, interaction with websites off Facebook, people and links you interact with on Facebook……. There’s a whole social media thesis worth of info I could add, suffice to say it is created by AI – (Artificial Intelligence), so it isn’t going to be ‘exactly’ what YOU want it to be.
So is that it, nothing I can do?
We need to respect that Facebook, like every other business in the world, are there to make money, and they do not charge us for use of the platform, so their only income stream is advertising, so these algorithms are designed for you to ‘click’ something that someone else has paid Facebook to drive you to. Therefor, by default, that’s the way your ‘main feed’ is set up….
BUT. There are some ways you can change it, you just need to understand how to do so
Fabulous, how can I do this then?
Go to your favourite Facebook Group so you see the header and top toolbar;
There is a little ‘drop’ arrow on the ‘Joined’ button, give it a click;
Now click on the ‘Manage Notifications’ option
Your ‘default’ option is likely ‘Highlights’. What this option shows you will be dependant on your interaction with the group, so if you are a ‘watcher’ rather than a poster you will likely get less. Equally if you don’t physically visit the group on a regular basis, the Facebook algorithm is likely to show you less from the group.
If you turn it off, you will only likely receive the minimal info on your feed such as new rules etc.
Friends only again is going to depend on how many ‘Facebook Friends’ you have in the same group, if you do not have any, then this option is likely of little use.
If you select ‘All Posts’, you will see everything that has been posted in the group. This option is brilliant if you are an admin or moderator and need to be on top of things, but be warned – this option may give you upward of 20 or so posts per day, per group that you have this setting active on.
Now, remember to ‘Save’ the setting.
OK, I’ve done all that, but now I am being inundated with posts from all my groups. Can I reverse it?
Yes, of course you can, you can change the setting as many times as you want. You can do it in one, or all of your groups. Just always remember to click ‘Save’ when you change settings
