Transfer to a USB device

Transfer my download to a USB drive

Your latest download will quite easily run and can be stored on your PC, but for those who prefer to have a physical library available of USB’s for each collection, the process is quite simple.

What storage device can I use?

Actually, most commercially available USB storage devices would suffice, but as with everything else, a good branded one would be best for longevity. Most online shopping sites, or your local retailer, including many supermarkets will likely stock them. You don’t need a massive storage capacity one either, (unless you wish to store more than one collection on the same drive, more on that later). The most common drives in the marketplace tend to be 4GB (gigabyte, in storage terms), these would more than suffice for the task.

So how do I get the files sent to the USB then?

This process is actually much simpler than it sounds. After you have ‘unzipped’ your download, (see help files), do the following:

·        Open Windows File Explorer on the computer to display the initial (top level) list of folders and files.

·        Insert the USB into the USB port on your computer, which should recognise it. The computer may ask if you want to scan it for viruses but if it is a new, blank USB then there is no need. The computer should automatically refresh the list of files displayed in the File Explorer window so that you see the USB drive referenced in the list.

·        Click on the folder name that contains the unzipped files and folders from the download, which will appear in the right-hand pane of the File Explorer window.

·        Using the mouse, highlight all the items in the right-hand pane. You can do this by either: (a) pressing the ‘ctrl’ and ‘A’ keys together or (b) click on the first file/folder in the list then press and hold down the ‘shift’ key while clicking on the last file/folder in the list (you can then release the key). In both cases, the items in the right-hand pane should all show as being highlighted.

·        Press and ‘C’ keys together to copy the highlighted items to the computer ‘clipboard’. (If you prefer, you can right-click the highlighted list and select ‘’Copy’ from the menu displayed)

·        Click on the USB drive shown in the left-hand File Explorer pane and press and ‘P’ keys together (or if you prefer, right-click on the USB drive and select ‘Paste’ from the menu displayed). The downloaded files and folders are then copied onto your USB. The original files and folders will be left in their original location on the computer.

It is your decision whether to leave then there or to remove them. It is advisable to leave them on the computer so that you can run them from there and so that you have two copies of them, one acting as a backup. Note: it is very important to ensure that you highlight and copy all the files and folders that were unzipped from the download when transferring them to the USB in order for the product to run correctly.
